Stop the ''Missile Defense'' Boondoggle

The White House is promoting a new ''Star Wars'' anti-missile program that can do little other than fatten the wallets of military contractors and set the stage for waging war in space. Let them know you won't stand for it!

      I write to beseech you to stop your plans for a missile-defense system, and instead focus on the strengthening of global arms-control pacts. Proponents' arguments for such a system are unrealistic. 
      China's nuclear arsenal may increase to ten times its present size in response to a U.S. missile-defense program. A National Intelligence Estimate in August, 2000 warned that a Chinese build-up arouse weapons build-ups in India and Pakistan. Simple and inexpensive countermeasures could confuse any defensive grid. According to a September 1999 National Intelligence Estimate, Russia and China already possessed the technology for such countermeasures to defeat an NMD system and they might be amenable to giving the technology to so-called "rogue" states. 
      There are many more reasons why the missile-defense plan is a horrible and destabilizing policy. Let me know of your response.
